A good reference

This volume provides a good reference for collectors of antique furniture. It includes a detailed chronology of styles and periods, coverering Europe and the US, and presents typical pieces of various categories of furniture, including details on construction. It is well illustrated. Unfortunately no relative values are provided. Also degree of rarity, popularity, etc. is also rarely mentioned.(A tip: I still think that Peter Philp's FIELD GUIDE TO ANTIQUE FURNITURE is much better. In fact, if you've got Philp's book, you don't really need this one).

It covers everything A to Z on the subject of identifying and authenticating period pieces. You WILL be able to identify period pieces once you've studied the book subjects. It offers hundred of pictures, with clear cut difinitions and examples.

If you are an antiques dealer, beginner or expert, you will not regret owning this very comprehensive guide.

This is because typical sales people are fixated on the product and believe that's what influences the purchase decision. They unfortunately never consider the real motivating factor in a purchase -- WHY the prospect desires to make a change in the first place and respecting the fact that people don't buy the product...they buy the solution the product delivers! Jeff Shore takes the reader deep into this understanding -- how and why people purchase products and what it takes to create the desire and urgency for the prospect to decide to make a change (to buy!). This book is so powerful because if the sales formula Jeff discusses is applied, the sales path that leads to the close will open up every time. Every Sales Professional seeking to improve his/her craft in a quest to be the top 1% MUST read this book! Bernice L. Hausman is Professor of English at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where she also teaches for the Women's Studies Program. She is the author of Changing Sex: Transsexualism, Technology, and the Idea of Gender and writes about medicine, gender theory, and the body. She lives in Blacksburg, VA.

Exellent book!

A must-read for any woman. Hausman's book is thorough and fascinating. A great read, and a great look at breastfeeding from a cultural perspective.

A little thick with the analysis, but worth digging through

Textual analysis (not necessarily applied to what we immediately think of as texts) can be tough going at times, but Hausman is worth doing a little extra work to get through. Early on, she mentions how common in her experience it had been to meet women who identified as feminists, who had had children and breastfed them, and who had vigourously ambivalent feelings about La Leche League. Since what I read about LLL caused me to steer completely clear of them (and, to be fair, I have equal disgust for second wave feminism's attitude to breastfeeding in particular, and parenting in general), this book was a fascinating window into a world I had not had the courage to explore directly.

I have benefitted greatly from the work of LLL. I have a lot of friends who breastfed, in part, because of their activism, and those friends were my support. And I've benefitted hugely from second wave feminism. Nice to see someone doing the hard work of reconciling these two, and showing some possibilities for a path forward to a better world for the children who are yet to be born.

refreshing to have answers and realize they're really attainable

tom rand gives a really fresh and importantly practical (and data supported!) view on how we're going to fix this massive problem staring us in the face. instead of just mentioning some interesting solutions out there, he puts out exactly how useful they can be RIGHT NOW, if we were to put the same investment (ie hundreds of billions) into them that we do into oil.

he's a fabulous communicator and clearly privy to all the most exciting things coming out of the start up and green tech world.

also amazing imagery, so you dont have to sit down and read it all at once. it's a very very visual work, that i highly recommend.

Human beings are more aware now than ever before that oil is running out, and with superpowers like China beginning to eat resources at a rate faster than the United States in their growth, it's ESSENTIAL that companies use other options now when, but NOW.

The 10 clean technologies are: Solar, Wind, Geothermal, Biofuels, Hydropower, Ocean, Smart Buildings, Transportation, Efficiency, and the Energy Internet

I love the beautiful pictures in this hardcover 250 page book, and it's a more positive spin on a problem that has gotten so much bad press.
